is monitoring the situation right now, don't expect president obama or the white house is really be interjected into this at this point. obviously this is very much an evolving situation. a fast-moving situation. we're not really expecting to hear anything of substance from the white house, i would say, until this sort of comes to a conclusion. again, president obama up to date overnight, and this morning on what's going on there in boston. in newtown. he will continue to monitor the events there. >> all right, thank you very much, brianna keilar at the white house for us this morning. again, president obama just here yesterday lifting the spirits of boston as part of that memorial service. very different morning as the manhunt for one of the suspects is very much under way. >> to bring you up to speed, there is a manhunt under way for one of the two suspects in the boston marathon terrorist attack. the first suspect was killed overnight in a shoot-out with police officers. it began on the campus of m.i.t. in cambridge, where a police officer has been killed, there was a carjacking and a chase
-- department of homeland security administration under president obama, worked for governor deval patrick. you heard gabe ramirez's report. you know that the fbi is trying to figure out if there is a connection, this individual has been asked to strip naked. none of this, you are a boston resident, you know that none of this is normal activity, even for a high -- a big pursuit of a major criminal. none of this is normal even for that scenario. what are your thoughts as the story unfolds? we want to keep away from speculation as to what we don't know. what is the information you're waiting to hear from law enforcement? >> well, we'll hear a definite determination, i think, that if it's not a match. in other words, they have no interest in everyone, including the public, it seems like everyone is awake right now based on my e-mails. they have no interest in having the public believe that the marathon bombers, the marathon culprits are caught. so if it's not a match, that will come out faster than if it was a match. that's simply -- why get everyone all worked up that these guys have been capture
to president obama. there's been a national security meeting. the white house says previously scheduled. but there was a gathering of all the top officials around 11:15 this morning. our google hangout plus with secretary kerry was postponed at the last minute today for obvious reasons. secretary kerry is leaving for istanbul for a meeting with president erdogan as he continues with his mission to try to sort out policy and the way forward, in syria, and then going to a nato meeting in brussels. there's a lot of balls in the air right now but principally we have a law enforcement challenge on our hands and it is being from all accounts, it is being handled brilliantly by massachusetts, boston and local, state and local police, all coordinating through governor patrick and other law enforcement officials the massachusetts emergency management team, the federal authorities, and all of course reporting to and coordinated by the fbi. this is the system that was put in place after the worst tragedy america endured, 9/11. after that, we had hearings, we had investigations, the creation of hom
is the fbi looking at right now? what's most important from your standpoint? >> well, obama met with his security advisers today, and their biggest concern is that it is a foreign threat, that it's not too lone wolfs in the united states that took this under their own, just decided to do it themselves. so what the fbi will be looking at is phone records, e-mail records. they'll be looking at any communications, travel records that had to do with these guys going back and possibly training at a camp in northern africa. the most important thing is the communication records, if they've made phone calls, connecting them to other people that may have been involved in encouraging this act or training them to do this particular act, that's what the fbi's going to be looking for going forward. >> and we don't have anymore information on that right now. we know, though, that the older brother, who is dead, did leave the country for six months. he's been living in america since 2007, but left for six months, and investigators are trying to zero in on whether or not he got terrorism training. are y

week. >> one of the tensest weeks of the obama presidency, you had the bombing in massachusetts, at the boston marathon, and then not long after we were trying to grasp that, you had the ricin letters, one addressed to the president of the united states and another one addressed to senator roger wicker on capitol hill. ricin poisonous, that was entirely unconnected. of course, the explosion at the fertilizer plant outside of waco, texas, an extraordinary week. as it's unfolding you don't know if the events are connected or not. a very tense week. by the way, a thoroughly packed week politically. the president's big initiative on gun violence went down on capitol hill. >> let's get to pierre thomas, right now, our chief justice correspondent, we're learning a lot more about the suspects right now, pierre, and one of the points you have been making this morning is the way they handled themselves in the firefight suggests some kind of par military training. >> george, let's re-create what we think happened, firefight, they were throwing grenades or explosives out the car. the suspe
, president obama is currently being briefed by nestle security officials and by the fbi. we had a stand that the president was kept informed of what was going on throughout the night. he was briefed repeatedly, undergoing another briefing as speak. you're looking in the left-hand side of your screen, that is a small house in, i think it is montgomery village and maryland. that is a house that is occupied by the two terrorists uncle. it was the uncle who was telling the media, speaking to the media earlier that these two people had been in america for ten years. they came here originally as boxers in some kind of sporting capacity. they have been nearly 14 years. last word to you, mr. o'toole. you think this is personal, not international politics. that is respect this in? >> is not my speculation. as simply have to consider that as a possibility because of the fact pattern of this case. stuart: all right. thank you very much for joining us. we welcome your input. two parallel stories. money and terrorism. back in a moment. everybody has different investment objectives, ideas, goals, app
to president obama, our condolences, but also offering russia's assistance in any type of investigation. and today, the father of those two suspects did tell cnn that he was questioned by russian security services and then released. wolf? >> the father being in dagistan, that's actually part of russia. so president putin would be in charge of that whole area. so if he wants to order the father to be questioned by law enforcement, that is easily done in dagistan. >> that's true. and that whole area of chechnya, again, i think it's important to note that that is a very, and has been for years, a very violent area. and one of the suspects did say, if you had come from a place like that, terrorism might not be that important. so i think that's a significant kind of indication of what we're dealing with. >> jill dougherty reporting for us, thanks very much. michael bouchard is joining us now, formerly with the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms in washington, atf. what do you make of the latest developments, mr. bouchard? on the one hand, it's very perplexing that a 19-year-old who runs
